Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 TCT test

MiTo takes its name from the first letters of the city in which it was designed - Milan and the city in which it is produced - Torino. For around 17 000$ we can become the owners of the Italian hatchback inspired by the beautiful Alfa 8C Competizione.

The sporty design has always been the Alfa Romeo's greatest asset. Beautiful lines of the body attracs customers despite the infamous reviews for their failure. Clear ribbing on the hood tapering towards the Scudetto, oval headlights in chrome rims and aggressive lines of the bumper shows the Italian temperament. The narrow line of windows, the frameless doors and muscular wheel arches with 17-inch rims are desirable details in the small premium car. Wide rear with short overhangs, distinctive round tail lamps and monogram silhouette crown the MiTo three-door hatchback. Built on the floorpan of Grande Punto, this model is only 4063 mm long, 1720 mm wide and 1446 high.

The interior, despite its small size, ensures a comfortable journey on the front seats and the ability to carry up to two not very tall people on the back seats. The interior qualidy arouses mixed feelings.. Brightly red leather demands paying 1500$ more amd it emphasizes the fact that the the Alfa Romeo Mito is a premium compact vehicle, but imitated carbon and aluminum on the dashboard clearly gives us to understand that we just sit in a more expensive Fiat.

In the front of the driver's eyes, there are four clear clocks and on-board computer known from Fiat and Lancia. The center console is dominated by the audio system display (Bose Hi-Fi demands 800$ more), and underneath the panel we can see the air conditioner operator. The center console is unfortunately not focused on the driver, as was in the case of the 156 and 159 models. There is a USB port placed in the centra tunnel, and you will find the comfortable armrest heating buttons (400$ more). At the top of the dashboard you can find a holder / socket for mounting optional TomTom navigation.

A trunk with 270 liters volume meets the needs of most users of a small hatchback, but a high threshold loading makes it hard to use it.

The heart of the MiTo is one of the eight engines with power from 70 to 170 hp. Test sample was equipped with an engine capacity of 1.4 liters, 135 hp and a torque of 206 Nm. These values allow you to achieve (Our MiTo weight is 1170kg) 100 km/ h in 8.2 seconds. During the calm citi driving the engine needs only slightly more than 8 l / 100 k of petrol.

The gasoline engine supports dual-clutch automatic TCT  transmission with the possibility of sequential shifting. Despite the generally good impression and pleasant work- gear can be annoying during the reduction, which results in shaking of or too long waiting for her reaction. Every Alfa Romeo MiTo is equipped with a standard D.N.A, which changes the characteristics of the steering, engine and  traction control systems responsiveness.
